- 무리 (HALO) -

 

태양빛이나 달빛이 빙정(氷晶)으로 구성된 얇은 구름을 통과할 때 생기는 다양한 대기광학 현상.

 

이 현상은 빛이 결정을 투과하면서 굴절되거나 결정면에서 반사되면서,

또는 이 2가지 효과의 조합에 의해 생긴다.

결정을 투과하는 각기 다른 파장을 갖는 입사광의 굴절률이 조금씩 다르기 때문에

빛의 굴절효과에 의한 분광현상이 나타난다.  반면 반사현상은 입사광을 구성하는

빛의 파장이 입사각과 같은 각도로 반사되므로 분광현상은 나타나지 않으며 엷은 색을 띠게 된다.

가장 일반적인 무리는 '22° 무리'로, 이는 태양이나 달을 중심으로

각반경이 22°인 일련의 빛 계열이며 때로는 완전한 원형으로 나타나기도 한다.

무리 빛의 순서는 빨간색이 안쪽, 파란색이 바깥쪽으로 대기의 광환과는 그 순서가 반대이다.

무리해·해기둥·접호·십자해무리 등의 드물게 나타나는 현상도

태양이나 달빛이 빙점에 의해 반사·굴절되면서 형성된다.

Joshua Thomas in Red River, New Mexico captured these magnificent arcs in the sky on the morning

of January 9, 2015. Look below for a labeled version of the same photo.

Ice halos are commonly seen by those who look at the skies;

we receive several photos of ice halos from somewhere in the world every week,

especially in wintertime. Often, we’ll receive many such photos, across a particular region,

sometimes for several days in a row. Most ice halos appear as a circle or ring around the sun or moon.

 Sometimes, if conditions are just right, you do see these wonderful,

rare events when the whole sky is filled with halo arcs.

Ice halos are caused by ice crystals in the upper atmosphere, which both refract and reflect sunlight or moonlight.
